There are some really good reasons to read to children of all ages and ways to encourage literacy even in small children. Reading is a great reason to turn off the TV and instill learning and confidence into a child while igniting their imagination.
Reading is an important way to bond with babies. It also promotes language development and listening skills. Touchy-feely books provide sensory stimulation. Colorful books help develop senses in even very young babies. Trying providing cloth, vinyl and board books for babies to explore. Early "reading" may look like chewing as babies explore things with their mouths. Try reading simple books about household items, such as kitty, ball, mommy, etc. Reading while cuddling with your baby is a great way to connect reading with pleasure. Be sure to respond to their "conversation" to encourage their responses. Be prepared to only capture their attention for a few minutes at a time at the baby stage.
Babies mostly like books with familiar items in baby's world, books with animal sounds, touchy-feely books with different textures, books with bright colors and bold pictures, as well as books with lullabies and rhymes/poetry.
You might find it difficult to catch a toddler long enough to have them sit to read a book. That is because they are so busy and have so much to do! It is best to catch a toddler when they are not interested in a new toy or when hungry or tired. Toddlers love small books that fit their hands.
Reading to toddlers helps develop their speech patterns. They learn new words which instills confidence and grows their imagination. Toddlers also love repetition so you might just find they have a favorite book which they want read over and over to them. Find opportune moments to read to your toddler which can be anywhere: the sandbox, while eating a meal, in the bath. They also like books where they have to "find the mouse" such as in Usborne Books "That's Not My" series which has a little white mouse hidden on every page for the child to find.
Instilling the love of reading into a child is one of the greatest gifts you can give the children in your life. A child's imagination is a precious thing to be nurtured. Books can transport children to far-away places and open up their world to learning.

Now this may surprise you, it did me, but Great Britain never, ever invented the humble teddy bear that sits in nearly every ones house and almost every child in the UK, and some adults have at least one in their bedroom. Another fact that we should know is the fact we did not give the teddy bear its name.
Before we go on some facts :
The humble Teddy Bear was invented by a German Company called – Margarete Steiff, and of course we all knew this he/she was named after that great USA President Theodore Roosevelt.
Since the Teddy Bear set foot and made his/her self at home in our homes in the early part of the 20th century, teddy bears seem to have melted people hearts, male and female young or old. They make us laugh, they make us cry, and they also bring back memories of when they were given to us, or we bought them.
Teddy Bears appear at home and also they appear in the workplace and have even advertised items on television. They have appeared in books, comics, films, and TV programs. Teddy Bears are everywhere.
But it is the Teddy Bears that appear in the books we have come to love that made the biggest impact, why I do not know and I guess if you were to ask the authors and people who draw them would say "I do not not know", but we all know that they have and have touched many hearts and not many children have gone to sleep without hearing the great stories of these lovely bears.
Now there are loads of bears out there who we read and hear about and I would guess there will be many more, but there are three bears that have touched the nation and the world. These three bears can account for major sales, whole industries have been built around them and they continue to make money for everyone.
Of course I am talking about Pooh, Paddington and Rupert.
These three bears have captured children and adults alike and have made these same people spend money buying the latest toy, story or DVD and they will always. These three bears will always make people money. So if you see a Pooh, Rupert, or Paddington that needs a good home at a car boot sale, take a closer look, and give them a good home.
And if they do not sell, they will be there beside you for many a day to make you smile and laugh, why…. well they are Pooh, Paddington and Rupert, and with these three anything could happen and who knows you might just pick up a vintage one and then you will be smiling all the way to the bank.

Imagine discovering a buried treasure. Most people in the United States might think of bank robbers in the Wild West who hid their gold in mountain caves. In England they are thinking about the buried gold of the Anglo-Saxons. That is because Terry Herbert discovered a massive amount of Anglo-Saxon gold back in July with a metal detector he purchased at a yard sale. Archaeologists have now completed the excavation of the site and all of the materials have been sent on to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
Mr. Herbert was enjoying his hobby when he made his find. It appears that the gold was moved closer to the surface because the field was recently plowed. After this amazing find Terry will be able to afford the most expensive suite at an all inclusive Curacao resort. Although Terry will be able to afford whatever he desires in the future, he did not indicate that he will be giving up his metal detecting hobby.
For people who consider archeology a hobby, this Anglo-Saxon find definitely demonstrated the need for a professional touch. The excavation took three months to complete. The gold artifacts will be studied and classified in Birmingham and then moved on to other museums. Although Jamaica was once part of the British Empire, the artifacts will most likely stay in England, and tourists visiting Negril all inclusive resorts will not see any of the artifacts.
The owner of the field and Mr. Herbert will be splitting the pay they will receive for the massive amount of gold taken from the find. This type of camaraderie is great to see. Maybe the two friends will take a variety of trips together. Could we be seeing them enjoying an all inclusive Caribbean resort in the future? We know that they will definitely have the funds to make a trip like that possible.
The people at Superclubs congratulate Terry Herbert on finding this massive amount of Anglo-Saxon gold. We hope he is able to use his resources to relax and enjoy life. We invite him and all people interested in staying with a top-notch all inclusive Caribbean resort to look to our Breezes Resorts. Come plan your all inclusive Curacao vacation with us. We know we have a treasure of beauty waiting for you at our Negril all inclusive resorts.

Unless you were a Boy Scout or are serving in the military, you may not know how to fold the American flag. It is proper to fold the flag in the correct way to keep it contained and safe, and also to ensure that the flag is being treated with respect and reverence. Remember, American flags should never touch the ground, and folding the American flag properly takes two people.
Here is the step-by-step process: Two people should each grasp the corners of the short ends of the flag, facing each other. The flag should be held waist high.
The flag should be folded in half lengthwise, with the striped side coming up and over the side with the blue field.
The flag should be folded in half again lengthwise, this time so the blue field comes up from underneath and appears on top. The flag should be kept taut.
At the striped end, begin folding in a triangle. This is done by turning the striped corner of the edge with a fold to line up with the open flag edge. Fold from right to left.
Repeat the triangle fold until the triangle is covered with the blue field.
Fold down the last square so that it covers the triangle.
Tuck the end inside the folds to make a tight bundle.
There are many reasons and events where folding the American flag is appropriate, all outlined by the US Flag Code. Some of the more common instances are when taking the flag down from a flagpole for overnight storage and presenting it to family members after it has decorated a casket of a member of the Armed Forces.
When done correctly, there are 13 folds (2 lengthwise and 11 triangular) that many feel represent the 13 original colonies of the United States of America. Others also feel that the finished triangular folded American flags is a reminder of a three-cornered hat similar to the ones worn by Revolutionary War patriots.
Storing a folded flag is appropriate for American flags that are in regular use. However, if a flag is stored this way for a long time, it could cause permanent folds or creases. For long-term storage, a flag should be stored flat. A flag can also be rolled up and placed in a tube made of acid-free material. Don't use cardboard or wood for flag storage.
